Spring Cleaning || HVAC 101

It's that time of year. We get to set our thermostat a bit lower and if we have air conditioning it's time to start thinking about warmer days and possibly getting our whole system cleaned and services. Our friends at Cardinal Heating & Air have some ideas to help keep things working smoothly.

Cardinal Heating and Air Presents Springtime Maintenance to your Mechanical System

Change air filters in your home. There are many to choose from at your nearby home improvement store.  They are rated based on their efficiency of dust particle removal. It's important that these filters get changed a minimum of twice a year as they literally filter the air coming into your home through your ducts. You should locate and remove the old filter and write down the information (or take photos) to be sure you get the correct size and type for replacement.

 Spring and summer are excellent times to make any duct or crawl space inspections and repairs. If you are experiencing high operating costs you should check to make sure you don’t have leaky ducts in your crawl or attic. Over time the duct seals can come apart or rodents can chew holes in the ducts making them inefficient and not able to deliver heat (or cooling) to your home. No one wants to do this job on a cold, rainy day!

 For AC: you should sweep away any debris near your outdoor unit and make sure it's clear of items. You should start your AC in the spring to make sure it's still working properly. You don't want to fire it up on a 85 degree evening only to find that it isn't operating.

 If you'd rather hire a professional for any of these home maintenance must -do's, you should contact Cardinal Heating and Air 425-827-9997 and get on their schedule for a maintenance of your HVAC equipment. If you have a furnace and AC unit, it might run you about $300 to replace the air filter, clean units, run diagnostics, lubricate any moving parts, check compressor, check for refrigerant leaks, and a number of other equipment specific checks.
