Last week in review (August 13 - 17, 2012)

Stocks and bonds have been competing for investment dollars, as the economic reports continue to deliver mixed results. Read on for details

Table Source: Mortgage Success Source

Several reports last week delivered good news for our economy.  The headline Retail Sales number came in at 0.8%, much higher than expectations. Building permits jumped to their highest level in four years and Consumer Sentiment also improved, coming in higher than expectations. In addition, inflation at the consumer level was tame. Testimonial For Cary Porter

Our house sold within the time period and the price range that Cary indicated in our first meeting with him. There were a few issues around access to the house due to our alarm system, but otherwise the process was smooth and we would recommend The Cascade Team.

Testimonial For Ann Meisner & Short Sale Team

Ann Meisner was instrumental in helping my sister who is physically disabled and was in a living situation that made it difficult and at times impossible to get out on her own to even go grocery shopping to find a single story rental home that give her better mobility and more freedom. Ann looked far and wide for a place that would…

(Photo via eBay)A certain segment of the population likes to be prepared for the worst, and for many doomsday scenarios, decommissioned underground nuclear missile silos are the ultimate hideout.

Despite this, there are government-constructed nuke-proof bunkers, some of the strongest structures made by man, that have lingered on the market without selling, and their prices have been slashed.

One bunker that CNBC has written about has had its price slashed from $4.6 million to $750,000.

Interested in more? A website called Missile Bases has numerous others listed for sale as well. Truth be told, some of these sale-priced bunkers are fixer-uppers. But on the plus side, once…

Home has Batman signal in the pool. (Photo via Zillow)

By Erika Riggs | Zillow – Tue, Aug 14, 2012 5:12 PM EDT

Usually the Bat signal is spotted in a dark sky over Gotham City. But in one Illinois home listed for $2.55 million, the symbol is found under water on the bottom of the pool.

“A guy came out and freehand drew it, and they [the owners] just kept it over the years,” explained Carstensen. “One of the son’s friends posted it on YouTube later, and that’s when it went viral.”

The Bat symbol is only one of the…
