Issaquah-Fall City Road Bridge Construction:
Crews are widening the road from two lanes to four lanes and are improving the intersections from signalized intersections to roundabouts,” Sammamish Senior Project engineer Sam Park said. “There are going to be three roundabouts, and we’re removing a sag in the roadway by building a bridge.”
It is that bridge work that is going to cause the closure of this route that connects the Sammamish Plateau to Highway 202 and I-90. The bridge is 400 feet long. Park said the plan is to close Issaquah-Fall City Road at the end of the month, though the closure date is still in flux. This closure will last eight months.
“Everyone is going to have to find their way around it,” Park said. “We’re going to have to wait and see approach as far as how traffic is impacted.”
The closure extends from 247th and Klahanie Boulevard, which is about a quarter of a mile. The entire project, widening included, extends about two miles. Park said the new bridge will be about 25 feet higher than the current roadway, which dips significantly to the creek bed at the bottom of the sag. It will be two lanes in each direction, with bike lanes and sidewalks on both sides.

- Monday - Friday 9:30 am - 3:30 pm
- During road closure M-F 7 am - 8 pm (between 247th and Klahanie Dr)
- Optional Saturday work 9 am - 6 pm
Is the closure for the new "bridge" between the middle school and the Klahanie shopping center for the full two years or just a portion of the time?
- The 8-month road closure is during bridge construction only, currently scheduled to begin March 28, 2020
For the remainder of the road area covered will it be closed for two years? partially open the whole construction time with flaggers, etc?
- The portion of road between 247th and Klahanie Dr will be closed for bridge construction, no other closures are planned (barring deliveries of large bridge structures). Construction will be occurring on the entire roadway for 2-years, with traffic control and flaggers during work hours only
Issaquah School District - New Elementary school - Sammamish
Introduction
The Issaquah School District (ISD) has proposed a new school, Elementary #16, at the property located on the west side of Issaquah-Pine Lake Road SE and SE Klahanie Boulevard. The project site is approximately 13 acres, and includes parcels 1524069008, 1524069026, and 1524069086. (See below vicinity site map for reference.)
Elementary #16 will be located on the Issaquah Pine Lake Road on a portion of a 13-acre site known locally as the Volpe property.
To meet continued enrollment growth, the District will construct a new elementary school to house up to 650 students. The building will include 26 classrooms and construction of playfield, bus and circulation areas and new parking.
June 2020
- Clearing of the property has begun with tree protection measures in place, trees have been taken down and mass site grading is happening.
- Excavation for the large storm vault is underway.
- Main drive grading and rockery walls has begun.
- Scheduled opening - Fall 2021.
Roundabouts, Around About Sammamish
A few years back Sammamish installed its first round about on Inglewood Hill Road and 216th Ave NE.
The basic rules of a roundabout are
1. Slow Down when approaching and be prepared to stop before entering
2. Traffic in the circle has the right of way
3. Yield to your left when entering
4. Wait for an opening before entering
5. Once in the circle, do not "let people in" the traffic behind you is not prepared to stop
6. If you miss your turn, just go around again.

New roundabouts are appearing in our region. Since the first one appeared on Inglewood Hill Road, The Issaquah Pine Lake Road has one at SE 32nd Street. Another in our area is in Issaquah at the East Lake Sammamish Parkway and SE 43rd St. It is a bit trickier than the two in Sammamish, but the basic rules are the same. The newest Roundabout in on SE Issaquah-Beaver Lake Road at the first entrance to Klahanie.
