In 2010, Alex Rodriguez bought a parcel of prime oceanfront for $7.4 million.
He poured in $24 million to create his ultimate custom home — 18,000 square feet of modern, luxurious living space — that he ended up listing less than three years later.
Now Gossip Extra reports that the New York Yankee has sold his home for $30 million to a Palm Beach couple.
Originally it was rumored that Rodriguez was planning on building the home for he and actress Cameron Diaz, his girlfriend at the time. The two visited the building site, and gossip mags speculated the two were moving in together. But it wasn’t meant to be. The two split, and shortly after the home was finished and Rodriguez stuck it on the market, first listing it at $38 million.
He didn’t get any bites, so he took it off the market and focused on recovering from hip surgery. Curbed reported that the home was briefly rented to four Arab princes, but apparently the royal tenants weren’t interested in buying.
Although it was off the MLS, A-Rod’s house was apparently still being shopped around privately to interested parties — a tactic that worked.
A-Rod’s custom manse is completely modern. An enormous front door leads to open living spaces, with nearly all-glass walls looking out over the bay. Property records show that Rodriguez bought the home in his own name, but that doesn’t mean the house was short on security. The previous listing states the home has a gated, walled property line and 16 security cameras. Forget snagging an autograph.
Other amenities include an infinity pool, outdoor kitchen, enormous gym with batting cage and steam room, zen gardens and 275 feet of waterfront dominated by two large docks.
